2021 Ultralight Backpacking Gear List – MYOG
In this video, I go through the full list of ultralight gear I will be taking with me on the overnight hikes I’m doing in 2021. The backpacking loadout is very minimal, I’ve made alot of it myself (MYOG) and everything is completely black #allblackeverythingforever ..well almost, some of it is in grey scale. And some brown. Various colors.

What a nice video, my friend! Great backpacking equipment review! Enjoyed watching, very useful info. Cheers from Russia, brother 😄, and welcome to my channel about bushcraft tips and hacks! Kind regards, Yuriy!
@zipworks Sorry! but three more questions if you don't mind! Why do you use a wind jacket, a rain jacket, AND an umbrella?
And 2. Why do you list the weight of your shelter as 21oz when it says 12oz on their website? Is 9oz the weight of the half-inner?
3.Which inner do you use?
Pardon, why the patagonia Houdini AND the patagonia Storm10?
And also why the Patagonia capiline base layer AND the Patagonia thermal weight zip-neck (another base layer)? Wouldn't the Patagonia r1 be better than the second base layer?
I'm really asking, bc I'm trying to decide on my mid layer for my current clothing setup. I so far use the capiline base layer shirt and a down puffy. I need something for in between these two layers
Thanks!
Ahh the monochrome
Heavy packs are for men only I guess
It's difficult to comment when you don't have a destination (?) EG. You may not even need the long pants or puffy. Conversely – the quilt may be woefully insufficient. There is NO one size fits all and you need different gear depending on weather, environment, length of trip etc.
Likewise (as a knife guy) you have an Opinel and a Victorinox. The Opinel is redundant, buy a good (lighter) neck knife instead. Also not sure why you need a packing cube for your quilt (or anything else) ?
Typically people will also have sleep clothes and socks and maybe even camp shoes so they always have something dry. And then you have an umbrella – not really an UL staple, that goes half a pound.
Again, I'm not a UL guy so I don't care what one carries, but I think there are some holes and some unecessaries in your list. IMHO
Yo real talk I'm at 13lbs base weight right now. I'm only missing a good jacket(lost my 135$ marmot recently) and a Katadyn water filter. Other than that what do you think I'm 13.7lbs to be exact could lighten my sleeping bag tbh
Great setup and nice MYOG! (Cognac is important)
Awesome gear 🥂

Cool video. I have the same quilt. I'm feeling cold at +3°, what is your experience with this quilt ?
I would love to see a materials video overview on why you use a certain weight of material, or a particular zipper or thread. Also hoping to see any bike packing gear if that's an interesting of yours as well.
Cool video
Great video! (1:46 63g)
What modification did you do to the knife? Thanks!
This was silky smooth
you need to put some dirt on em.
Amazing video and nice concept. I'm obsessed with videos like this. Im sure channel will grow up. Keep going.
Do your hiking poles make rattling sound. Were you able to fix it?
What did you do to modify the Nu25?
Not even 5kg is very impresive in my book….
Thanks for doing this! And we know that you meant 9.9 lb base weight, not 9.9 oz. 🙂
love the monotone scheme! 🖤
So soothing to watch!
