  • The advice ont he video is spot on, I did however spray my feet once or twice a day for a few months with Methalated Sprits which helps to toughen up the skin. I know this could be abit extreme for some but I hike with a heavy pack and it certainly helped me alot to avoid those annoying hot spots and Blisters from ruining my hikes.

  • @uselessjoe Lt Dan also had military issue socks and not high end hiking socks. Military socks should be changed often…..if you do say, a 12 mile hike with full gear, you should change your socks every 3 miles…… changing them once should be minimum.

    If you buy some nice wool socks made for long distance that do not hold moisture, you will get away with doing 12 without changing them at all, assuming your boot laces are also tied properly and you have the right size boot.

  • might sound stupid but duct tape, a pair of my boots had the inner linning of the heel warn through to the hard plastic heel cup/leather upper. I continued to wear them for 3 or 4 months after it wore totally through. the way i dit it was three overlapping strips on my skin, then three over lapping in the same spot after i put my sock on. be warned though it will ruine your socks.

  • Lt Dan said change your socks every day. Is that true?

  • I went for a long hike and had MAJOR hot spots forming, we found a COLD brook and I gradually soaked my feet in the water for about 1/2 hour and then let my feet air out in sandles for the rest of the day and the next day I was fine 🙂
