What Backpacking/Hiking Gear are you OVER in 2021? What NEW GEAR are you replacing it with???
👇Let Us Know Down Below!👇
I've been looking for years for the perfect hiking shirt. Haven't found it yet, and this ODR shirt doesn't look quite there either. For a start the colour, black is too hot for many places I hike, and when the sun is beating down on you, you want a lighter colour, tan/khaki. It would also ideally have a larger hood that could really shelter your face from the sun, as well as a draw cord to pull it down in the wind. It must be made of a good wicking material- merino? I will see if Icerbreaker have created something like this yet. They are the best bet.
I tried a polyester sun hoodie for a number of hikes and though it definitely worked well on the trail, it reeked almost immediately. I ended up going back to tried and true Merino wool. No smell, and much better temperature regulation.
Question – do you wish your hoodie had a 1/3 or 1/2 zip on the front? It seems to me it would dump heat a LOT better with that feature.
Personally, I use a Patagonia ultralight t-shirt as layer #1, and then the Kuiu Peloton 97 as my "hoodie" over it. The Peloton 97 only weighs 5.5 oz, and yet it worked great in 90F heat while section-hiking the PCT in Oregon, and also for keeping me warm when it was close to freezing on a few mornings.
cut it down!

OMG Just get to it. 3:11
If you do design a new sun hoodie Darwin, you should offer it in earth tones and/or camo.
"I don't really throw my gear away." Trash can shot Love it!
Editing was badass on this video.
The hood also helps with bugs when they're aggressive
I’m over you in 2021
Go with a poncho and you have no more worries
another intro too long.
What a great friend you are, handing off your worthless junk 🤭
you're not a minimalist if you keep buying new gear when it's slightly better than your old stuff; it's good that you give it away and stuff, but true minimalism comes from making the best out of what you have

I replaced my Outdoor Vitals 30 degree mummy bag with a UGQ quilt, and we've both been using the Godsamer Gear 1/8 foam pad this year.
Hello sir,
You touched on this topic but id like to get more info…
Are there reputable ebay type websites or forums that people sell their gently used backpacking items such as the one you mentioned? I see others like geartrade and outdoorageek?
Thanks!
Utah Hiker here, yeah, I strictly use a long sleeve, breathable, hoody type shirt LIKE the sun hood but BETTER because it unzips. Though I also love the sun hoody you're wearing and use it!

Arcteryx or patagonia for rain jackets all day. If you have the money check the military versions cause they are usually higher quality
You forgot to grow the rest of the beard in on your face. Puberty is funny like that.

If you're looking for a different approach to making videos, have a look at some of the European hikers. They typically talk a lot less, show a lot more. Their videos are less gear oriented and focus more on how their gear get used during hikes or camps. There's a huge gap between a guy talking about fishing pole (for instance) in his living room and a guy using fishing pole to catch fish out of a lake surrounded by beautiful mountains.
I'm a 300lb man who's never been backpacking in my life, but these videos are so fascinating to me.
We consume, therefore we alive.
dude dont get me wrong but you look like a cartoon
I feel like it would be worth it to sacrifice some weight for a 18350 headlamp at least if not a 18650 light. That’s coming from someone who watches hiking videos on YouTube and barley actually hikes though
I’ve used the gg ccf since ‘17, though I use it below my sleep pad for extra puncture protection. I think you’ll find the gg ccf will soak up water though, where the z seat style pad does not. The gg pad is also quite adept at picking up stickers too, so watch out for that.
I'm 2 minutes in and you're still monologueing about nothing important. Just skip the fluff and hit the high points in 1/3rd of the time.
Hi everybody from Ukraine!! Thank you for the content!
I thought Kliuka is still playing volleyball

Greeting from Hong Kong and thank you so much for your experience & sharing.
Narcissists love to make show-n-tell videos, where they get to display their new toys, and then speak about how things don’t matter, so THAT’s why they get rid of perfectly good gear, and move on to the shiny new items… and repeatedly remind us that they are just being practical. Oh whats this, another shiny new item? Oh, well narcissism can’t help themselves. Dump the old, get the new item that doesn’t do anything different. It’s just new. Long sleeves with thumbhole, because, covers tattoos, and is a more comfortable shirt than the last…shirt? LOL a delusional video joker.
i became a sun hoody guy this year as well. use it for everything from 100+ degree hikes in the desert to my recent Mt Rainier summit.
I was hooked 33 seconds in 😂
Z packs and hyperlite gear hella failed me through tons of trips in Colorado and the west coast. I got a 3F pack replacement and great price, it's lasted a lot longer than my Z packs.
