Canadian 5.1lbs Ultralight Hiking Gear List 2019
Updated for 2019, a few tweaks but overall my gear has worked well over the years so far. I say zee-packs but it should probably be zed-packs; also quilt is 20F not 20C.
“UL is not flimsy”….”my shoulder pocket is broken”; it happens, I’m rough with my shoulder pocket and basically live out of it.
Omitted from the video, but included in the 5.1lbs: my phone (camera used for the video), battery bank (rotate between 5k and 10k size as needed)
“CCF pad is really warm and I sleep great” = I hiked all day and nothing is stopping me from sleeping right now.

I love my gossamer gear pot cozy.
Love your setup! Totally cutting out any non-sense! I cant beleive you dont pack a down jacket of thermals to sleep in! :O I freeze my ass off in winter and I live in a warmer climate!
06:00 UL gear isn’t flimsy or fragile. 5 seconds later….My current shoulder pocket is broken so I’m replacing it. Lol. All seriousness. Good video, thanks.
Inspiring video. I have a question about your lack of a puffy jacket. I’m planning a 2021 CDT thruhike and I hiked the PCT in 2017. On the PCT I didn’t use a puffy, or even a fleece for that matter, and generally I was pretty fine despite it being a record snow year. I was thinking about getting a puffy for the CDT however, but I think that I might be fine with just a fleece/windbreaker combo. What’s been your experience?
Asking because you’re one of the only people (if not the only person) I’ve seen with a gear list that excludes a puffy.
Wear the headnet to bed and save the weight of the s2s nano pyramid!
hey bro im tryina figure out on the gossamer website before i order was yours the small ditty or the large? i checked the dimensions but the large seems really big to me but when i look at their picture of them all next to each other the large seems to be the right size. thanks.
Lighterpack link? Ty for info man
Oh and I've used spray glue adhere cut down Mylar emergency blanket to the GG 1/8th inch pad to increase R value 😊
Really like how this moves along.
Very informative video!!
I love that you said black bears aren’t dangerous ❤️
Well made video, sir.
Excellent. I always prefer gear lists from people who have finished trips.
Good video mate, well explained and great attitude to it all
Subbed specifically to see what Canadian hikers are doing. I've had difficulty getting a decent gear set-up cause all the recommendations are American and aren't always available up here, or they're unreasonably more expensive
How would your summer loadout change (if at all) for the Sierras?
good stuff man!
Great video. Always nice to see what gear people are using
I have not been able to find chicken, tuna or spam singles in a pouch in Canada. what are the best options here in Canada
Hey man, I watched your tarp set up vid. Would love to see how the nano net looks in there, and how you set that up. Clear some snow from the backyard and do a vid! 😉 Do you just attach it to the top of your trekking pole for the half mid? A frame?
Speak up bro
I really wanted a inner bug net when camping in tick areas. Just sleeping with a bug net knowing they will be crawling on my sleeping bag is a BIG NO NO.
Any ideas for a shelter that i can close up. i hike in Europe and stay in camp grounds so i prefer that people cant see inside, less temptation. Can the tarp your using do that and can you put a link ,thanks.
Great gear and channel I subscribed to your channel I was hoping maybe you would subscribe to mine I’m going to be hiking the Pacific crest Trail starting March 30
