Lol bro I love the accent. Thanks for the info!!
Hey I just saw your shirt, I’m also from Kentucky and just getting into backpacking, I’m in Powell county just outside the gorge. It’s nice to see other people enjoying the same things I do near me, keep it up 👍
When not whenever
Here are 3 things that I should have gotten as a beginner backpacker:
1) Self-inflating sitting pad: though I always use to laugh at these and found them completely unnecessary, these pads are such a game changer. They're very small in packed size, and can easily be strapped to the exterior of your backpack. Anyone who sat on a rock or piece of wood for several hours, will know how cold and uncomfortable it always gets after a while. Therm-A-Rest produces quality sitting pads for an affordable price.
2) Portable Slippers: the last thing you want to do when you wake up in the morning, is to put on your hiking boots every time you're trying to get out of your tent… and walking around outdoors without shoes is a nightmare. Most portable slippers are the same as the ones that they'll offer you in hotels. They weigh close to nothing, and will make getting ready in the morning so much more convenient.
3) Proper trekking & hiking clothing: though you'd think that a jogging suit, or sporty casual clothing will do… proper clothing from an outdoor shop is totally different. Most hiking trousers will be very stretchy, and a hiking vests/jackets will offer lots of additional pockets to store various items, which will spare you taking off your backpack and searching for certain gear every single time you need it.
I prefer the Grayl water bottle, best thing ever! Big yes but oh man so useful and you can put stuff in it so saves space in your packsack. Ghost whisperer got it also not so warm but good to sleep in it, I prefer OR, Eddie Bauer or Columbia instead, to each his or her own right? I bought 7 pairs of Darn Tough (wool merino) and they have a life guaranteed so if you get holes in them you can return them free of charge and they will send you another pair, well guess what all my pairs within six month had holes in them but not my Smartwool, Wigwam, Icebreaker, Opossums you got to try those (really), Injinji toe socks( you must try those), ect. So, why does Darn Tough have a life guarantee (and all of their socks get holes in them in no time) while all the other brand names have no life guarantee, I ask you? Don't buy Darn Tough not worthed, really not! I also went overboard with my Blavor Wireless Solar Power Bank 20000mAh, let me tell you never had problems with it, don't regret buying it. Good video = good job Jeremiah, keep them coming!
I've been wearing People's Marino wool socks every day at work winter and summer in Alaska for a couple years. They are inexpensive and pretty good quality, not the best at -40 but for budget they are great.
This video assumes everyone who wants to backpack is a ultra-light junkie.
You should try footprint insoles, made for skateboarding but are amazing
Have you tried super feet?
Just got one from my son for my birthday, still waiting for it to come in the mail
After gaing a ton of weight i have finally lost enough to start hiking again and i love it. Your videos are great ty
You mentioned a chair in the beginning but I didn’t see your view one? Any advice pleased
What sleeping mat did you recommend? Unfortunately your links are dead for people from Europe due to GDPR
Bro your intro iS GOLD
Love your shirt!!!!
Get some barefoot shoes/boots. You’ll thank me later.
Good Ol' Southern Boy! Lol. Got some good ideas, though!
The lightest 10,000mAh powerbank in the world is the Moxnice…It weighs 148g (5.2oz). That makes it 2g lighter than the Nitecore version with the Carbon Fibre case, which they claim to be the lightest. It's about half the price of the Nitecore too.
That smartwool shirt: Merino wool 150g/m2 (square meter) so probably a little less than 150 grams
I have the same battery. I really like it, haven't taken it out into the backcountry yet but I will be labor day weekend since it's my only battery pack.
Subscribed solely because of your sleeping bag background..good video, thanks!

I've almost guessed the weight of your battery pack. I guessed 500g, and after checking 15 ounces is 425g. I think it's quire light if it goes for 20Ah battery 🙂
This is kind of an older video, so you probably won’t see this, but I think you’re a real solid dude for constantly shouting out your buddies products and pages.
I have a Bindi. It lasts about two hours max on high and that is only 200 lumens. Best as a back up headlight for me personally.
Biolite's wood burning stove is a game changer.
Been using Spenco insoles for years and love them. Carry two pairs so you've got fresh and dry daily.
Hey man. Stop dissin’ Cotton so much.
You should ditch those battery packs and get solar battery pack. Put it in a clamshell plastic clear container that will attach to the outside of your pack. It will recharge as you're hiking.
GPS?
Back in the day we didn't use Dyneema tape, we just used duct tape and a sleeping pad was a contractor garbage bag stuffed with brush which had an R value of "at least you didn't die".
Too poor to buy twice, bruh!
i got the point on earphones, but bluetooth ones will have to be recharged + they will drain even more your cell battery. as someone below suggested, just have the cord under one of your clothing layer to avoid mishaps
Hey Jeremiah, I see you almost always wearing a hat and you mentioned you like pockets. Have you seen the wazoo cache cap? I just got one for survival/ edc but you can keep a lot of little gear in your hat!
What a great video! Lots of good info with a healthy dose of humor! Thank you very much!
As opposed to battery packs, that still eventually need to be recharged by plug-in. How do you feel about solar battery packs. That you can charge off your hip or have hanging off your backpack while doing long-distance backpack hiking?
You are better-looking without the beard, in my opinion. I'm sure others feel differently, though.
For boots, use leather soules. Walk on lether.
