Hiking 150km Across Madeira – Madeira Island Ultra Trail – MIUT
In this cinematic hiking video, I hike the #MIUT also known as the #Madeira Island Ultra Run in early November of 2021. Our trek was a total of 93 miles and 30,000 feet of elevation gain (150 km and nearly 10,000 meters of elevation gain). We backpacked, camped, and hiked a total of 6 days, 5 nights, as we made it through a huge variety of terrain near the ocean, through the cloud forests, and onto the peaks of Pico do Arieiro and Pico Ruivo the highest peak on the island. The hike should have been about 115km long, but somehow, between getting lost, and also doing my back and forth with my filming, I clocked 150km. That’s a nice big number, so I’m going to go with that instead.

wonderful movie! (the shots, the pacing, the absence of words, the mood, the soundtrack)
Great job on the video, you captured some amazing footage!
Simply breathtaking video. What a landscapes, what a fantastic video. Love it.
This looks truly amazing! I want to go hiking there myself and was wondering how camping goes, I read everywhere that wildcamping is forbidden there.. Did you just take the risk or how did you do it?
This is exceptional good. Thank you.
One questions, who eats cake and after that pizza :)))?
Wow, really nice video, I loved the composition/framing (cadrages) and colours of the scenes.
I laughed at the 'pat a cat' segment, what a good reference to Kraig's dog encounters.
Love how you frame it you both and the scenery, very cinematic, hope you enjoy the trail as I enjoy both videos
Beautiful video Ryan 🙂 I particularly enjoyed the woodland shots… really mystical and definitely not what I expected from an island off the coast of North Africa!!
I have had friends visit Madeira from the UK and they rave about the trails out there so it's high on my list and I hope to visit in the coming years. Did you encounter other trails you hope to return and complete or would you just recommend the MIUT for those looking for a great hiking experience on the island?
Also great to hear of your speedy recovery from your injury. I hope that you only continue to get stronger in that recovery.
Best wishes,
Will
so beautiful! But to be honest, I dont like the black bars. I think its more immersive to fill the entire screen (like Imax). But nevertheless, still a awesome job!
I love this video and your family video in Paris! What were your picture profile settings for your video in Paris? It seemed like a lot of details in the highlights for it to be Standard/No Picture Profile. Could you please tell me which LUT you used in the Paris video?
Hi Ryan
Congrats, the video went out quite fast 🙂
Do you remember me, we meet in refuge of Pico Ruivo,
was a pleasure to meet you.
Excellent Video! You've collected some beautiful impressions here 👍😊. we wish you a nice day! Best wishes Up'n'Down-Traveling
Great Video and recording, we know how much work it is🙈☺️
The area looks really amazing! We also use every opportunity to shoot new videos outdoor for YT, there is simply nothing better than being outside ☺️

Wow I'm excited to see the nest video
Ein wunderschönes Video ohne unnötiges Gelaber. Die grandiosen bewegten Bilder sagen mehr als tausend Worte. Ganz toll!
Amazing! Outdid yourself on this one. Looking forward to the follow-up videos.
Glad you come back on the trail. The scenery, the vegetation, the aerial footage, and mixed up with the color grading always be incredible. For me, this is such a comfortable film this week. Great job !!!
Great vid, looks really wet & dramatic! Such a varied landscape. Really looking forward to your commentary for this.
Okay, I force myself to stop watching for now and add it to my watch list. This is something I have to watch with my family on TV on the upcoming weekend.
Amazing cinematic view, thank you for sharing this with us, keep going my fellow traveler.
Good to see you back out there. Looking forward to more content!
Great video
Awesone – Really happy for you guys to pull of this hike! wet trails and a lot of nice views! looking forward for next vid!
This stuff is off the charts.
You must have had a LOAD of drone battories with you. lol Love the damp jungle feel. Reminds me of Oragon. Ill have to put it on the tv later today and finnish it. Keep em comming bud.
Brilliant hiking and sharing! Zindabad! Lot of love and respect from a solo mountain hiker from the Lower Chitral District of Pakistan!
Good to be traveling again. Although Madeira is well known in many countries, it's relatively unheard of in the USA. I'm looking for other destinations like that, what do you suggest?
