Hiking Clingmans Dome | Top of the Smokies | WINTER EDITION | Smoky Mountains National Park
Clingmans Dome is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. In winter the road to access the observation tower is closed so the only way to get there is by ski, snowshoe or foot. At more than 15 miles uphill and through the snow it is a tough hike.
Would you do it?

Favorite hiking snacks and hot beverage if you ever hike with one? I always bring tea or a hot cocoa/coffee mix and some trail mix
Could you run the hose for you water bladder under your coat ? Then maybe the heat of it being closer to the body would help keep it thawed ??
Ive done about 40 miles of the 1175 mile long MST. I keep hiking the same parts in wake county but, i plan to do the parts in the mountains this summer.
Great thanks Alice
Snow conditions can change by the hour, so be prepared whether skiing, hiking or snowshoeing, great views, glad you had dry air and clear views. The thermos was a great idea. Dress in layers with a gortex outer shell.

Love it. Nice work put in. Like I tell my students, if it's easy it's probably not worth doing.
For a frozen water tube, try putting one of those hand warmer packets against it for a bit. Love your videos, keep up the good work!
nuts,seeds,jerky,protein bar.
Your always such an inspiration for me to get outside! Thanks Alice!
Views of something except yourself is preferred.
Too much constant talking.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful and cold outdoor adventure with us Alice. Great job. Also thank you for the advice with the frozen water, just have a huge winter hike in front of my next days and never that about it. And in case you want to catch some summer feelings and you like hiking videos, it would be a pleasure, if you come over to my channel and have a look at me and my dogs recent outdoor adventures 😉 Stay safe out there. Warm wishes, Mario (subscribed)
Nice hike; thanks for posting!
This is a fantastic video, you are so full of positive energy and you manage to transfer it to the video. It can be seen in every scene. The trail is fantastic, winter scenery is gorgeous.
I've been to 20 to 30+ different times to Gatlinburg, TN during my 53yrs of living. Every time I went wasn't never long enough. My best place to spend a lot of time at was Cades Cove. You will never have enough time to enjoy its Beauty.
Wow that's a nice hike Alice I live in NC I have never hiked that trail but it's beautiful, you are a tough woman 14 miles is a lot to hike in snow.go to hanging Rock state park near Danbury NC, near the Virginia border, it has some awesome views on the Dan River, thanks for taking us along on such a great hike.
Crazy how difficult it can be in the winter. I took a road trip to a wedding in GA in July 2020. Since it was early months of the pandemic, road tripping was great with not many people traveling. Got to drive up to Clingmans Dome in the middle of summer with only a handful of people there. Gorgeous vistas at the summit!
Running back and forth in the snow while filming has got to be a pain . Beautiful photography, stunning scenery.
Thanks Alice!
Good job. Way to take on a challenge and see it through. The meal to replenish so many calories must have been fun too.
Just got done hiking Leconte and checked my phone. This popped up. What are the odds lol
Great video Alice! That's way too hard for me.
SO gorgeous! Love that you include the google earth video. And my favorite hiking snack is orange slices 🙂
That was the fastest 10 minutes ever. I can definitely relate to questioning why I’m in snowshoes or boots when I really should be on XC skis (because I don’t own any, yet!). Even with the freezing temperatures, I don’t know how you made it 6+ miles uphill in several inches of snow in that heavy looking coat. I would have been MELTING inside…Unless, of course, the wind was blowing the whole time. And eating snow for water? On every hike with fresh snow available. Less to carry! And as much as I like to step in the tracks of others, it’s always kind of cool knowing you’re the only one that’s been there is a while. Or at least since the last decent snowfall.
I can also relate to the giddy feeling of being able to hike again after injury (achilles tendon surgeries) and how amazing it feels to be out there again. But, also kind of scary. That somersault was impressive! You’re obviously healing up well. Thank you for the uplifting video, Alice
👍nice!.
Always a good time watching your adventures! Look like a grueling yet rewarding hike. Hope the shoulder is doing good.
What a gorgeous day in the park. The winter scenery was enjoyable to experience vicariously. Partial to the Cataloochee Valley in the Spring for the backpacking, the fly fishing…and a bit fewer people.
Looks like it was a perfect day for your hike! Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful place, thank you for talking us along. You sure are pretty in the morning sun.
What backpack are you using?
Love this video. It's great to see snow. We never really get snow in Ireland 🇮🇪
I hope your surgery recovery Is successful.
Beautiful hike. I recommend micro-spikes for windblown and icy hiking. Positive traction feels good underfoot.
Absolutely love these place I try to go at least three times a year to visit thanks for the wonderful video. Stay safe out there and I’ll keep watching your wonderful videos thank you again
Very nice Alice! 👍🥾…
Did you see any Bears?
That's an insane hike 🚶♀️ 16 miles in the snow ❄️ great job 👏. You've got more indurance then I
Awesome video. You should hike the trails to Mt. Leconte if you haven't. I have a video on my channel for the Alum Cave trail.
