On this episode we go on our very first Maui hiking trip up into the West Maui Forest Preserve. Tag along as we explore what many call Maui’s best hike, the Waihee Ridge Trail. While hiking Maui’s Waihee Ridge Trail we make some new friends, experience the amazing natural beauty that Maui has to offer and shoot some magical Maui photography. Make sure to subscribe to continue following our Maui travel as we spend the next several months experiencing what it’s like to live, work and explore one of the most beautiful places in all of America on our Maui travel vlog.
The Detourist Guide To Travel is an immersive, long term travel show created by Alex & Laura, a Pacific Northwest based YouTube travel couple. We reside somewhere between extended travel vlog and the travel channel, where we insist on taking our time, connecting with the people we meet and enjoying the scenic route. By avoiding travel guides, busy itineraries and tourist traps, we explore how to experience a destination like the locals do, by becoming locals ourselves.

i slide my ass down
What shoes is she wearing in this vid? We will be there shortly and my girl wants similar? / Same thing.
Always loved that hike. This was the first hike my wife and I did when we first started dating. The platforms and viewing decks are new, there was only an old picnic table at the top the last time I went up, but that was 24 years ago.
Done this hike 3 times!!!!!
Great video! Always do this early in the morning.Otherwise it clouds up. The first grind gets your legs warmed up…if you can't hack that turn back as it's a huge elevation gain.
But an easy hike , bit muddy and slippery , you can't get lost as the trail is literally worn into the ground .
Have done this about 4 times..once in mud and flip-flops: not recommended , Easy going up not down! LOL a few ass plants ! .
. Fit people I saw were doing this in full on hiking boots, big packs and hiking poles, LOL…ok…total overkill , they were astonished some of us we had flip flops on.
P.S. couldn't get the mud out of our runners at least the flip flops cleaned up!
Rewatching your videos cause I'm gonna be in magical Maui next week! Thanks for the details about this hike, can't wait to explore it!
How long to get there and back?
Those funky trees are Cook pines. The ones one Lanai are HUGE! They planted a bunch of them on the ridge line above Lanai City to capture cloud mist and supply water to the town.
Got a mile up had to turn back my girlfriend wouldn’t stop complaining ruined my day. Beautiful views though
Wow, this looks truly amazing! Would it be silly to bring my drone? Just as i asked, I noticed you brought yours. Very cool! Which drone did you bring? I am debating between my Spark or my Autel Evo. Liked and subbed. Thanks!
