This trip requires overnight permits from the Inyo National Forest Wilderness Office. This specific trail started at the Agnew Meadows Trailhead! There’s a first-come, first-serve campsite near the trailhead which costs some money so plan ahead if you wish to camp there before heading out.

We definitely recommend the PCT route there and back, unless you want to stop to see the other lakes in the area. If so, take the PCT there and the JMT back for better elevation distribution.

Awesome! I just got permits to do the same loop but clockwise! What month did you do your trip in?
My wife and I are heading out of Agnew Meadows in a couple of weeks. I’ve done a lot of backpacking but it’s my wife’s first time. If we take the high trail on the PCT, are there places to camp along the way to thousand island in case she can’t make it the whole way? Thanks and great video.
Cool video! I agree with your sentiment… go high route for starts.

Wow! That’s awesome hike! It’s incredible to see the sunrise from the middle/top of the mountain. I have never tried backpacking! The longest hike I did was, Mt Whitney! It’s fun to try backpacking! Great video! 👍👍👍
