How to Predict Thunderstorms in Colorado | Lightning Tips for Hiking, Backpacking, and 14ers


Looking to start hiking in Colorado this summer, but nervous about the afternoon thunderstorms? Then you have come to the right place!

Thru-Hiking the Colorado Trail, San Luis Loop, and bagging over twenty 14ers has allowed me to spend many days in Colorado’s beautiful alpine tundra over the years which in turn means I have watched countless thunderstorms roll across the sky. Over the years I have noticed consistent patterns that, in combination with weather science, makes it easier to predict monsoon related lightning.
