People laugh but the best thing I pack is a pee bottle for night time! (Gatorade bottle) not having to get out of your tent at 3-4 am to take a leak is worth itβs weight in gold
Thanks a bunch, your videos have really helped when choosing gear to start hiking this year π
Do you have a link to the umbrella?
Another great video π
Good vid!
Great video!
Would like to know more about Garmin Fenix 5+. Do you plan on doing a detailed review of it? Does the GPS lose track easily on the rugged road with tall trees?
My favorite "gear" of 2019 is absolutely my Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 BIKEPACKING tent!
The poles break down to 12" and carry options are unique and convenient.
I have at least 3 videos over on my channel if you are curious about it but I love love love my home away from home.
I only have one problem with it, I am a gear head and love buying new gear to try…. now that i have put almost 40 nights into that tent
I no longer need to look for a better tent, seriously I love it that much check it out.
Some good stuff, as for running hot when putting on a rain jacket, check what special forces use, No Goretex etc.
Love my Garmin fenix 5x got it on sale and I have to say itβs one of my favorite trail gear I got last year also the trekology pillow is awesome
Thank you for taking the time to share*
Is your umbrella really <5 oz? My noncollapsible Euroshirm from Gossamer Gear is ~ 8 oz. Where did you get it?
The REI Flash 55 is on sale for $139 at the moment.
Paria sleep pad, short ποΈ
That watch is overboard. Too much money for unneeded tech. $550+ for something a map and compass and a brain can do for much cheaper and, if you know what you are doing, better. It walks, talks and chews gum all at the same time but does nothing to improve the hiking experience, unless someone is into expensive gadgets. Maybe it is just me but I hike to get away for the tech world and all the extraneous BS in life. I certainly am not going to bring it with me. I carry a phone for emergencies and as a camera. The Inreach may be worth the price for the emergencies but there is something visceral knowing you are on your own even in an emergency. Adds a little extra to the hiking in the middle of nowhere experience. It also makes you think seriously before doing something stupid.
The pack is on the other end of the spectrum. The design looks like it was well thought out by someone who does a lot of back country miles. Big bang for the bucks. I really like good, inexpensive gear.
Pack seems super nice, liked the water bottle feature.
Just ran across your channel, great information on the gear here, I like that the pack has the pockets where you can actually get to your water without taking the pack off. Can't wait to sit down and view your adventures, thanks for sharing, I'm now a subscriber!!
All right. 94th friend.
Nice to meet you, buddy.
Thank you for sharing a good video.
New friend here. Hope you canVisit me too.

I agree, the Trekology 2.0 pillow is the best! The strap is truly a game changer. I've tried several of the expensive blowup pillows and the Trek is by far the most comfortable.
Great Vid! My EE quilt is my fav piece of gear !!! Love it!
I am really in the market for a lighter backpack. Can or have you done an in depth review of the flash 55?
Fantastic information Justin. I agree with the umbrella I have a fantastic one that is silver so reflects the sun. I started using them a few years back and swear I will never go without it. The pack is fab I love those water bottle pouches. I hate trying to get my bottle out and here in Australia I use a bladder and a bottle for that reason but when overseas I tend to just take bottles. Thank you I enjoyed watching π£π£
Garmin inreach is a favorite over here and follows me on every trip. Even day hikes
Do you have a link for the umbrella?
Nice video. Good content on your channel. I subscribed. βοΈ
My favorite piece of gear for this yr was the thermarest z seat ππ½
InReach for me too, I had use it for an emergency medical evacuation and it was indispensable!
Between you, Matty, someone else and some other youtuber that pillow sounds like the way to go. π I like this fairly cheap Alps Mountaineering pillow that I've had for a few years, but I may just have to give Trekology a try. $15….that's nuts!! That strap is a game changer!
It's supposed to be unlucky to open an umbrella indoors.
Great video! I've been leaning towards getting an REI Flash 55, and you just solidified my decision. Actually, several of my new gear items have been influenced by your reviews. Thank you for all of the great information!
We're definitely going to have to have a bighorn ramming contest with those pillows on our next trip! I actually didn't realize that REI pack was that light weight, thats impressive!
Great stuff as always homie
My favourite is the sea to summit ether light, and your review really pushed me towards it so happy with it.
thanks!
You talk about loading topo maps and recording tracks on the Garmin — how have you found the battery life to be while doing that? I've never used a smartwatch for that, but I know with my other devices, recording tracks generally takes so much battery that it just isn't worth it to me. The watch is an appealing idea because its other functionality is something I can live without if absolutely necessary (losing my phone due to battery issues, for instance, would be catastrophic,) and it's just a small amount of worn weight on my wrist, as opposed to being another clunky piece of equipment, like a handheld GPS. Have you had any issues at all with battery life?
